Empowered Journeys Motorcycle Training

90 minutes one-to-one, including training and test

This package is for you if you have significant experience with (and feel confident with) riding a motorcycle with manual gears. (Your previous motorcycle experience might come from successful completion of our Learn To Ride course or from riding dirt bikes, riding farm bikes, riding overseas or other road riding without a New Zealand motorcycle licence, but whichever way, you should feel confident with riding. If that is not you, consider taking our Learn To Ride package first.)

You should already be familiar with the controls of a manual motorcycle. We will review moving off, stopping, changing gear, riding through curves, parking, emergency stops, and using mirrors, indicators and head-checks as required for riding on the road. The training will cover the tasks required for the Basic Handling Skills Test, so you'll be setting yourself up for success. At the conclusion of the training, if ready, you will take the Basic Handling Skills Test.

We provide the bike, helmet and gloves. You are welcome to bring and use your own bike and equipment, but the motorcycle must be roadworthy and Learner Approved.

The appointment fee covers use of our equipment, training, conducting the Basic Handling Skills Test, and providing the Basic Handling Skills Test certificate (for successful candidate).

The appointment will proceed irrespective of weather conditions, unless the assessor deems the conditions unsafe. You are expected to arrive prepared to complete the session. You must wear long sleeves, long pants and sturdy, covered footwear (i.e. feet completely covered).
