Empowered Journeys Motorcycle Training

This package combines our Learn To Ride (LTR) and Basic Handling Skills (BHS) packages. 

This is the training option for you if you have limited time and you want to learn to ride a motorcycle with manual gears and complete the Basic Handling Skills (BHS) Test in a single session. There is quite a lot to learn, so you should only choose this package if you have some advantages on your side: you are already experienced with driving another vehicle with clutch and manual gears (such as a car) AND you have some recent experience of riding a two-wheeled vehicle (such as a bicycle) AND you have a calm and resilient nature that can cope with learning new skills under a tight time constraint. If that is not you, you should start with our Learn To Ride (LTR) package. (Lots of people have succeeded with the combined package, but the people who have not succeeded have either had no experience with a manual vehicle so they struggled with clutch and gear shifts, or they had no recent experience with a two-wheeled vehicle so they struggled with balance, or they suffered some anxiety when faced with learning a new skill and being tested on it. If you choose this package and are unsuccessful, you will need to purchase another session if you want to complete the process.)

With one-to-one training designed to build safely and progressively your confidence and skill, this session will introduce you to the controls of a motorcycle, how to move off, ride slowly in a straight line and stop safely, ride through a curve, change gears, ride alternating curves (figure of eight), and use mirrors, indicators and head-checks as required for riding on the road. The training will cover the tasks required for the Basic Handling Skills Test, so you'll be setting yourself up for success. At the conclusion of the training, if ready, you will take the Basic Handling Skills Test.

We provide the bike, helmet and gloves. You are welcome to bring and use your own bike and equipment, but the motorcycle must be roadworthy and Learner Approved.

The appointment fee covers use of our equipment, training, conducting the Basic Handling Skills Test, and providing the Basic Handling Skills Test certificate (for successful candidate).

The appointment will proceed irrespective of weather conditions, unless the assessor deems the conditions unsafe. You are expected to arrive prepared to complete the session. You must wear long sleeves, long pants and sturdy, covered footwear (i.e. feet completely covered).
